Ciheb-Kenya continues to play a central role in strengthening health systems. During the reporting period, Ciheb-Kenya participated in the launch of the Nairobi Integrated Specimen Referral System (ISRS) Operational Plan, a key milestone aimed at improving efficiency and coordination in laboratory services across the county.
The ISRS is a coordinated system that enables patient samples to move efficiently from health facilities to laboratories for testing, with results returned promptly. Speaking at the launch, Dr. Carol Ngunu, County Director of Health said the ISRS is a game changer for diagnostics. “This system will play a critical role in expanding access to essential diagnostic services; including HIV viral load testing, early infant diagnosis, and TB testing—thereby supporting timely clinical decision-making and improved patient outcomes.” She noted.
Through its ongoing partnership with Nairobi County, Ciheb-Kenya has supported the scale-up of diagnostic services across health facilities, strengthening laboratory systems, improving turnaround times, and enhancing overall service delivery.

A key highlight of this occasion was the handover of vehicles, motorbikes, and a truck to the County Government. This marked an important step toward sustainability and increased county ownership within the broader Government-to-Government (G2G) transition framework.
Ciheb Kenya receives both technical and financial support from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), through the CDC Kenya Office, enabling us to implement impactful, life-saving health programs across the country.
