Louisa A. Peartree, MBA, is the senior associate dean, finance and resource management and chief operations officer at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM). In this role, she oversees all of the SOM’s financial affairs, human resources, academic administration, and facilities operations.

Ms. Peartree received a BS degree in finance and a BA degree in english from Virginia Tech and her MBA degree in finance from Loyola University of Maryland.

Prior to becoming the senior associate dean, Ms. Peartree served in senior financial and management positions with FPI, formerly known as University Physicians Incorporated (UPI), and its joint venture practice affiliate organization, UniversityCare, LLC, from 1992-1997. She transferred to the Dean’s Office in 1998, and has been an excellent and valued member of the Dean’s Office in the School of Medicine. Louisa had served as an assistant dean since 2003.

She was promoted to associate dean for finance and business affairs and chief financial officer in July 2010. As associate dean, Ms. Peartree was responsible for the active stewardship of the School of Medicine’s complex financial resources and for efficiently managing those resources in order to support the school’s research, clinical, teaching, and outreach missions.

As chief operations officer, Ms. Peartree oversees and manages, along with her team, all of the operational, financial, facilities, and business affairs for the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

In addition, she works closely with other leadership on matters related to space management and human resources. She also serves as a senior liaison to Facility Physicians, Inc., University of Maryland, Baltimore, and the University of Maryland Medical Center in order to ensure close coordination with the campus and affiliate institutions.

She serves on the board and as president of Maryland Global Initiatives Corporation (MGIC). MGIC is a non-profit affiliate of UMB with a mission to administratively support international operations of UMB grant-funded principal investigators. Its purpose is to provide the administrative infrastructure for sizable and sustained operations outside of the United States. Currently, MGIC operates in Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia, with registration application in-process in Haiti.

She also serves on the board of Baltimore Research & Education Foundation, Inc. (BREF). The BREF is a private, non-profit organization established in July of 1990 to support research and research-related educational activities of the VA Maryland Health Care System.
