Ciheb-kenya Joins The Fight Against Mpox

Posted: Nov 05 2025

In response to the growing threat of Mpox, Ciheb-Kenya joined hands with the Ministry of Health and partners to roll out the national Mpox vaccination campaign. The vaccination which was implemented across Busia, Mombasa and Nakuru counties, targeted more than 10,000 high-risk individuals, including truck drivers and other key populations. The initiative was aimed at protecting communities and stop the spread of Mpox through timely vaccination, awareness and coordination.

Working closely with the World Health Organization (WHO), CDC Kenya, Amref Health Africa, UNICEF, and North Star Alliance, Ciheb-Kenya provided technical and logistical support to ensure the campaign reaches those who need it most.

The exercise which took place between August to September 2025 had a remarkable impact. Ciheb-Kenya managed to train over 564 healthcare workers on Mpox case management and sensitized 993 more through continuous medical education sessions. As of September, through outreach and mobilization efforts, 10,697 individuals were vaccinated, surpassing the initial target. The team also distributed over 1,800 posters and worked with community health volunteers, peer educators, truck driver unions, and key population networks to increase awareness and demand for the vaccine.

For Ciheb-Kenya, this effort goes beyond disease control - it was about protecting lives, strengthening health systems, and building trust among communities often left behind. As an institution, we remain committed to supporting Kenya’s public health response and ensuring that everyone, everywhere, has access to safe and effective vaccines.
